It all started in 1996.
Capcom, perhaps without even realizing it, created an entire genre of game. The survival horror classic, Resident Evil, released March 22nd, 1996.

That means that next year, 2021, will be another milestone. 25 years of a franchise is nothing to scoff at.
Capcom seems to agree, as they’re searching for licensees to help them make celebratory merch. They recently posted on their page for the Resident Evil series claiming just that.
To be more specific, they’re searching for licensees to help them make merchandise for the anniversary AND for 3. This is likely because it’s the most recent installment.
Previous Resident Evil Anniversaries
This isn’t the first time Capcom has done something like this to celebrate. Back in 2016, they celebrated the 20th anniversary with merch as well. They even had a couple games to celebrate, releasing an HD remaster of Resident Evil 0 and the ill-received Umbrella Corps.
Maybe we’ll see some surprises as part of the celebration? Until then, let’s hope we get a few teasers on the kinds of things we can look forward to.
