    Capcom‘s 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 has won this year’s Ultimate Game of the Year and Best Audio Award at the 37th Golden Joystick Awards hosted by Danny Wallace at Bloomsbury big top, London, UK.

    When fans were asked what the definitive title of 2019 was, millions cast their votes for the game that impressed them the most. Presenting the award was GamesRadar’s Global Editor-in-Chief, Sam Loveridge. Resident Evil 2 beat nominees Outer Wilds, Telling Lies, Gears 5, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Control, Disco Elysium, Apex Legends, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Untitled Goose Game, and The Outer Worlds.

    Directors Kazunori Kadio and Yasuhiro Anpo were unable to attend and accepted via prerecorded video. They thanked the fans and humbled to receive the award and fan praise of the remake of the beloved title. As they were unable to attend the award was presented to Capcom representatives Stephanoand Klaus who were in attendance.

    The award is for a game that the fans feel makes the best use of sound design and music. Resident Evil 2 beat out A Plague Tale: Innocence, Ape Out, Cadence of Hyrule, Control, Day’s Gone, Outer Wilds, Observation, Tetris Effect, and The Light Keeps Us Safe for the nomination.

    Unfortunately, director Kazunori Kadio and composer Shusaku Uchiyama were unable to be there in person but had previously recorded their acceptance speech. So presenter and electronic audio engineer Dan Le Sac presented the award to Capcom representatives, Stephano and Klaus.

    The award was previously given in 2018 to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s God of War.

    The last Resident Evil title awarded a Golden Joystick was in 2005 when Resident Evil 4 won Editor’s Game of the Year.
    Before that, 2002’s Resident Evil Remake won GameCube Game of the Year in 2002 and in 1997 Resident Evil won Best Playstation Plus Game.
