Despite its strong showing at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards wasn’t as friendly to the GJA’s Ultimate Game of the Year.
We were all rooting for Resident Evil 2. It was nominated for three categories: Best Audio Design, Best Direction, and Game of the Year.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.
Despite having a strong case for all awards, Call of Duty Modern Warefare came home with Best Audio Design Death Standing walked away with Best Direction, while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won the highest honor.
I’m not one to say that Resi got robbed. I’m actually very pleasantly surprised by Game of the Year. I also think Death Stranding deserved all of the awards it won.
I won’t lie though; I’m sad that Resident Evil 2 left the show without any awards.
While we may be sad, Capcom didn’t show up for nothing. Devil May Cry 5 won Best Action Game.
After all, what’s the loss in not getting “Game of the Year” when you’ve already won “Ultimate Game of the Year”? Even though they left the show with no awards this has still been an amazing year for Capcom. I can’t wait to see what amazing things are to come in the future.
Perhaps next year Resident Evil 3 can win big.
