News from the grapevine looks to be the worst enemy of secrecy, as Resident Evil Ambassador program members in Japan are being tapped to test a new game this September.
To all Resident Evil Ambassadors,
Thank you for your patronage regarding the Resident Evil series.
Today, we are letting you know that we are recruiting testers for a game that’s in development!!
We are interested in incorporating the feedback of all Ambassadors into our development, so please read the details below and, if you are interested in participating, click the Entry button.Resident Evil Ambassador Program Email
Everything is Still Unknown
Obviously, it’s in Japanese, but thankfully, someone over at Biohaze has translated it for us. The general tone if the letter is thankful, as Capcom gives their appreciation to the Ambassadors. It then goes on to say that they’re extending an invitation to the members, allowing them to be part of development on “a game”.
Their letter doesn’t give much away, but it’s hard to imagine that Capcom’s Division 1 going to the Ambassadors to have them test something that isn’t at least related to Resident Evil. With that logic in mind, we can begin to speculate on what they’ll be working on.
The most interesting part of all of this is the timeframe, however. The testing is supposed to take place September 8th and 9th. A seemingly innocuous date, until you realize that the Tokyo Game Show starts only three days after that.
My best bet, personally, would be Resident Evil 8. The time for spinoffs is over for now, and releasing two remakes back to back wouldn’t be a smart move on their part. As such, I think that the already-confirmed 8 makes the most sense for the timeframe.
We all know that the game development pipeline can be a swift one, and three days from testing to showing isn’t impossible. That’s why I believe that this is a good sign for fans; that sounds like three days of fine-tuning so that they can put on a spectacular showing at TGS.
This news, in my eyes, can only mean good things for followers of the series. If testing goes well, it’s highly likely we’ll get to see new Resident Evil content before the year ends. With testing being involved, we might even see a demo at the show.
If a demo comes from it, I’d hope that we’d get our hands on it not long after the show. In that case, I’d love to see another Beginning Hour situation, with all of the batshit ARG elements that brought with it.
Sadly, we’ll have to wait two more months for any of this speculation to be confirmed or denied. Hopefully, we’ll see a few more leaks within that time.
