Before you throw your phone/monitor, bear with me.

The contentious Resident Evil film series (published by Constantin Films) came to an end in 2016, with many fans cheering its demise. Most would agree that their faithfulness to the original mythology was loose at best, and the decade’s worth of films pretty much ruined the fandom’s opinion of Hollywood.

That being said, this news comes with a hopeful bit of info: Resident Evil is getting a reboot, and it’s not by the same team that made the original ones.

A report from ScreenRant says that Johannes Roberts, director of 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey at Night, is working on a completely separate reboot film from the Paul W.S. Anderson debacles.

Roberts claims to be aiming for “getting back to the roots of the game” means that fans of the franchise may yet be able to hope once again.

What we do know

Regardless, all we know right now is that Roberts’ pitch for the series went well. Also that it’s actively being developed. Given the work that it takes to get a movie off the ground, I imagine we won’t see anything for a while.

That being said, I think it’s worth getting a little excited about it. The fact that an actual HORROR director is on the case at least means that we should see something closer to the source.

For now, we have the testing that the Ambassadors are doing to look forward to.
